The Waterford Crystal Centre for Marketing Studies was founded in 2003 as a result of a partnership between Waterford Crystal and WIT School of Business. The purpose of the Centre is the creation of new marketing knowledge. The Centre aims to diffuse this knowledge by promoting three interacting activities, namely:
- Teaching,
- Research, and
- Industry Interaction.
The Waterford Crystal Centre for Marketing Studies has a core of researchers supported by external funding and acts as a research focus for a total of 12 staff in the marketing area. The core resource includes Professor Gary Davies, a visiting Professor of Marketing from Manchester Business School, two core faculty members and a full time research assistant funded by a grant from Waterford Crystal. Additional staff are currently funded on existing projects. There are also 7 research students at both masters by research and doctoral level. Since its inception in 2002, the Centre has graduated 2 doctoral candidates and 4 masters by research candidates. During this time the Centre has acquired funding approaching €3 million, mainly for projects in branding and tourism. The Centre for Marketing has also received funding for a healthcare marketing project from WIT’s internal Behest Clustering Fund, a seed research fund. Core researchers have published between them in excess of 200 refereed journal papers in journals such as the Corporate Reputation Review, Journal of Brand Management, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, European Journal of Marketing, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Retailing & Consumer Services, Journal of Advertising Research, British Journal of Management, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Strategic Marketing, Journal of Customer Behaviour, and Industrial Marketing Management. Centre members have also presented at leading international conferences such as the American Marketing Association Summer & Winter Educators Conference and the Academy of Marketing Science World Marketing Congress and the Association for Consumer Research Conference.
